Based on our benchmark: automation saves four hours per staff member per day on repetitive tasks, across twenty-two working days a month. Actual savings vary by workflow.
Where the four hours come from
Eligibility checks, claim status lookups, payment posting and denial triage are the four tasks that take a billing team's morning and give nothing back for the thinking. Across the practices we have automated, those four come to roughly four hours per staff member per day.
Eligibility is usually the largest single piece: a front desk checking seven payer portals by hand spends two to three hours a morning on work a bot does in minutes, and does it before the patient arrives rather than after the denial.
What automation does not do
Appeals. Complex coding. Any conversation with a payer that needs somebody to argue. Those are the hours worth keeping, and a bot that tries them creates work rather than removing it.
It also does not replace the staff member. The saved hours go back into the work that was being deferred — aged AR nobody had time for, denials sitting past their appeal window — which is where the revenue actually is.
What it costs to get there
A bot has to clear a measurable break-even inside ninety days or it is not worth building. That rules out most of what gets sold as automation in this industry: the tasks worth automating are the high-volume, low-judgement ones, and there are fewer of them than vendors suggest.
